This M4A to WAV converter saves an M4A recording or voice memo as a WAV, so you can edit it in Audacity, GarageBand or any other audio editor. The WAV is 16-bit and keeps the recording's own sample rate and its mono or stereo sound. It's uncompressed, so it comes out several times bigger than the M4A. Your file never leaves your device. To save an MP3 instead, use M4A to MP3, and for other formats the audio converter.
Questions
Is the M4A to WAV converter free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, in Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone: pick the M4A from your phone and save the WAV. If your browser can't play a file's sound, the page says so as soon as you pick it.
Will the quality drop?
No. The WAV is uncompressed, so it keeps the sound as the M4A plays it. It can't add back detail the M4A left out when it was made, so it won't sound better than the M4A either.
Is there a size limit?
No limit is set, but WAV files are big: a minute of stereo sound takes about 10 to 11 MB, so an hour comes to over 600 MB. One WAV file holds a little over six hours of stereo sound at most; for anything longer, save it as an MP3. On a phone, very long recordings can be more than the browser can handle, so use a computer for those.
