Read as — change it
The file opens again in the encoding you choose.
Undo your changes first: reading the file another way opens it again.
A .sub file stores times as frame numbers, so it has no meaning without a rate. We don't guess one.
Click any line to change its words or times. Times read as 00:01:02,500, 00:01:02.500, 1:02.5 or 62.5 seconds. Press Enter in a time, or Ctrl+Enter in the words, to keep a change; Escape puts the line back.
Plays on your computer; it is never uploaded.
No subtitles left. Add one at the start to begin again.
VTT is the caption format web players need, and it's fussier than SRT: a WEBVTT line at the top, dots before the milliseconds, a blank line between captions. The editor keeps all that right for you while you change the words and times. It's handy for fixing YouTube's automatic captions or a Zoom transcript before you publish them.
Questions
How do I edit a VTT file?
Drop it above, click a caption to change it, and save as VTT.
Does it keep the file valid WebVTT?
Yes. It saves the WEBVTT header, the dots before the milliseconds and the blank lines between captions, so web players accept the result.
Can I turn the VTT into an SRT while I'm at it?
Yes. Pick SRT when you save, or use VTT to SRT for a straight conversion.
