Most of a VTT file is timing. Drop one here and you get only the words back, one subtitle to a line, with the WEBVTT header, timestamps and cue settings gone. It's for when all you need is what was said, for notes, a quote, a blog post or a word count. The list below shows everything that gets dropped.

Questions
How do I convert VTT to TXT?
Drop the .vtt above and download the .txt. The header, timestamps and any positioning are removed, and each subtitle becomes one line of text.
Are speaker names kept?
Yes. Names typed into the caption, like ANNA: Where were you?, stay as they are, and names held in VTT voice tags, <v Anna>, are written at the start of the line.
Can I get the text as a Word document instead?
Yes. VTT to Word gives you a .docx, with the times in a table or as plain paragraphs.
I have the YouTube video, not the file. Is there a quicker way?
Yes. Paste the link into YouTube transcript and the text comes straight back, with nothing to download first.
Can I convert several VTT files at once?
Yes. Put them in a ZIP and drop the ZIP. You get one text file per VTT back in a ZIP.
