Removing a transcript

What we can remove

Any transcript held at a /t/ link. We delete the transcript, and we block the same video from being transcribed again — so resubmitting the URL will not quietly undo the removal, by anyone, including the person who asked for it.

Subtitle files converted on this site are not held anywhere. They are read inside the browser of whoever converted them and never reach us, so there is nothing for us to remove and nothing we could remove if asked.

Who can ask

Anyone. We would rather remove something on a request that turns out not to need one than make a person prove standing before we will listen.

Tell us who you are and what your connection to the content is, and if you are writing on someone else's behalf, say so.

What to send

• The transcript link, or the original video URL — either is enough to find it.
• Who you are, and your connection to the content.
• What you are asking us to do, if it is not simply removal.

No particular form of words is required, and you do not need to cite a law. A sentence naming the link is enough to start.

Where to send it

A working contact address goes here before launch. This is a launch blocker rather than a detail: the removal path has to be reachable by someone who has never used the site and has no reason to want to.

How long it takes

A stated turnaround goes here before launch. It has to be a number rather than "promptly", because the entire point of publishing one is that someone can tell when it has not been met.

After a removal

The link keeps working and says the transcript was removed following a request. It does not say who asked, and it does not 404 — a dead link tells the next person nothing and sends them to try again.
